Pack 1158 AES Cub Scout Botanic Garden – Environmental Service Opportunity
April 9, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT
The garden is a teaching garden with an area (within the garden) to hold a class of 30 students.
There's lots to do, so we can scale it big or small depending on the turnout. There will be Mc Burgers and burritos for the workers. Please bring garden tools, if you happen to have them (long handled garden fork and wheelbarrow; slender shovel or drain spade; hand trowel.) and a general work kit (garden gloves, garden gloves for a friend, water bottle, sweat towel, sun block and hat)
Stay as long or brief as you'd like.
(I think you can get "Environmental Service Hours" for this effort, if you need them)
How you can help (in priority order)
1) Green Thumb = Transplant potted plants into garden
2) Earth mover = Move Mulch onto garden walkways (using wheelbarrow or wagon)
3) Fence mender = Fix broken fencing
4) Foundation maker = Make a small (5x3ft) patio deck that can be used as a stage for teacher.
5) Bench man = Install a couple benches. Dig 6 post holes. Use concrete.
6) (optional) Trail Un-blazer = Spread grass seed on any lawn areas that were killed during the construction phase of the garden (from a year ago).
7) (Optional) Weed wacker = Wack back the invasive vines on the external perimeter of the garden. Be careful of the poison ivy type plants.
8) (optional) Shed Organizer – Help Organize the scout shed. Clean, organize, label, and inventory items.
9) (optional) Shed roof repair – There are many shingles to replace. If this is your calling, please let me know. It can be done anytime, not just at this specific event.
