SUMMARY:Pool - Swim Test & Water Rescue Req'ts
DESCRIPTION:Instead of our regular meeting at the firehouse\, we will meet at Claude Moore Recreation Center for aquatics requirements.Scouts and registered adults will take the annual swim test ahead of summer camp and aquatics campouts (kayaking and whitewater). Scouts also will work on aquatics rescue rank requirements for 2nd and 1st Class.Troop 58 is renting 2 lanes in the pool\, so Scouts do NOT need to pay the entry fee for the rec center.RSVPs here in TroopTrack will be helpful to ensuring we can move everyone through the test and requirements as efficiently as possible.

SUMMARY:Spring WoodBadge Weekend 1
DESCRIPTION:WoodBadgeRegistration – https://scoutingevent.com/082-woodbadge2025Wood Badge is the Boy Scouts of America’s ultimate leadership training designed to meet the advanced leadership needs of Scouters in all aspects of the BSA\, whether unit\, district\, or council level – from assistant den leaders to Scoutmasters\, from Cubmasters to Venturing Advisors\, from committee members to commissioners. It is a fun\, energetic and inspiring course guaranteed to infuse your unit with fun and meaning – all designed to fulfill the mission of the BSA\, and ensure our youth is getting everything they are promised from the program.Reflecting the best of nearly a century of Scouting experience\, Wood Badge draws upon the most current leadership models used by corporate America\, academic circles and successful organizations throughout the country. Participants can expect to develop skills in many areas\, including leadership theory\, team building\, problem-solving\, communication\, project planning and more.  These skills can be taken back to packs\, troops\, crews and ships to help leaders guide youth in dynamic Scouting programs.  Scouters will find these skills invaluable in their business and personal lives as well.Wood Badge consists of two parts:The first five full days is the initial group training\, usually held over two weekends – the first weekend Friday through Sunday\, and the second Saturday and Sunday (Both weekends must be attended). The second part requires participants to apply the skills they learned by completing a 5-part plan (called a “ticket”) over the following 18 months\, leading towards the individual participant’s vision of a better Scouting future.Requirements for attending Wood Badge: 1.    Be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America and age 18 or older.2.    Have completed the basic position-specific training courses for their Scouting role.3.    Be capable of functioning safely in an outdoor environment. SUMMARY:IOLS - Prince William
DESCRIPTION:IOLSRegistration – https://scoutingevent.com/082-PWDIOLSMar2025As you know\, the Scouts BSA program emphasizes outdoor skills and adventures. Whether it’s a weekend campout\, a challenging hike\, or a skills-based activity\, the outdoors is where Scouts learn\, grow\, and thrive. To lead these activities effectively\, adult leaders need a strong foundation in outdoor skills\, and that’s why we have Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills or IOLS.Why take the training for IOLS?IOLS is the required training course for all Scouts BSA leaders. It’s a requirement for any adult leader to be considered fully trained for their role in a Scouts BSA troop. Without IOLS\, leaders cannot be officially recognized as trained\, which limits their ability to support the troop’s outdoor program fully.Skill Mastery: You’ll learn essential skills like knot tying\, campsite setup\, first aid\, and using a map and compass — all skills needed to help Scouts advance from Tenderfoot to First Class.Expert Guidance: The course is led by experienced instructors who bring years of Scouting knowledge and practical outdoor experience\, providing you with valuable tips and insights.Networking and Growth: IOLS is an incredible opportunity to meet fellow Scouters\, share stories\, and learn from others’ experiences. The connections you make can help you grow within the Scouting movement and provide support as you continue your leadership journey. What are the benefits for you and your Scout Troop?Full Leader Training: Completing IOLS requires full training as a Scout’s BSA leader\, which allows you to effectively support your troop’s program.Confidence in Outdoor Leadership: You’ll gain the confidence to lead Scouts in outdoor activities\, knowing you have the skills and knowledge to handle various situations.Community and Support: By attending IOLS\, you’ll join a network of Scouters who are passionate about the outdoors and eager to share their experiences and knowledge.Investing your time in IOLS is crucial for your personal growth and the success of your troop. It’s a requirement for being a fully trained leader and an amazing opportunity to learn new skills\, build lasting connections\, and become a more effective guide for our Scouts. Join us for IOLS\, and let’s work together to deliver an outstanding outdoor program that helps our Scouts reach their full potential.Registration and Other DetailsCost: $40 per BSA Registered ScouterEquipment: A list of camping equipment will be provided for registrants.Time: Starts on Saturday\, 14 March 2025\, at 8:00 AM; ends on Sunday\, 15 March 2025\, at 12:00 PMPrerequisitesUp-to-date Youth Protection TrainingUp to date Hazardous Weather Training (BSA course SCO_800)Safe Swim Defense (BSA course SCO_801)Safety Afloat (BSA course SCO_802)These training courses are all available online at my.scouting.org under the “My Training” tab.Participants must provide documentation about completing the online courses; this can be done by:Print the certificates provided by training.scouting.org upon course completion and provide a copy when registering for the training course’s start date.Provide the electronic certificates via e-mail to the course directorAll participants must complete the BSA-Medical-Form-A&B.
