DESCRIPTION:RSVP HERE IF YOU ARE ONLY COMING FOR THE DAY HIKE.  \nJoin us for a day hike while we are camping  @ Marsden Tract Campsite (https://www.canaltrust.org/pyv/marsden-tract-campground/) in between the C&O Canal and the Potomac River.  Plan to arrive by 10am\, so you can join us as we hike IN PATROLS (<10 people) Section C of the Billy Goat trail 1.6 miles)\, one of the most popular and challenging rock hikes in the east!  There are also many additional woodland trails for beginners and experts alike. Fishing is available in both the C&O Canal and the Potomac River. SUMMARY:Winter Campout
DESCRIPTION:We will be camping FOR ONE NIGHT @ sites 2 and 3 of the Marsden Tract Campsite (https://www.canaltrust.org/pyv/marsden-tract-campground/) in between the C&O Canal and the Potomac River.  During the day on Saturday\, we will hike IN PATROLS (<10 people) Section C of the Billy Goat trail 1.6 miles)\, one of the most popular and challenging rock hikes in the east!  There are also many additional woodland trails for beginners and experts alike. Fishing is available in both the C&O Canal and the Potomac River. Scouts will need a Maryland fishing license if they are 16 or older and fishing in the Canal; Virginia licenses are approved for fishing in the Potomac only.  There will be no Zoom on this campout!   \nDress warm and let's prepare for some serious hot meals – chili\, dutch oven meals\, mountain man breakfast\, etc.  No sandwiches or cold bagels this weekend!  Make sure to check on the weather regarding prior or forecasted rain\, so we can bring dry firewood with us if necessary! \nDAY HIKERS ARE WELCOME if you do not want to camp…just RSVP here instead – https://troop58.trooptrack.com/plan/events/1251405 . \nWe have 2 30-person campsites reserved\, so there will be plenty of room to spread out and remain COVID-safe. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. Portable toilets are located between group campsite #1 and group campsite #2. Potable water will likely not be available due to the winter season\, so we will need to bring full jugs with us from Ashburn. Access to the campsites is by foot only\, so we should be prepared to walk approx.. 1 mile east on the C&O Canal Tow Path from the Angler's Inn parking area (10801 MacArthur Boulevard\, Potomac\, MD) to the campsite. There is a footbridge over the canal and towpath off of MacArthur Blvd. near the intersection with Brickyard Rd. This will be used to off-load gear to be walked down the hill to the campsite.
