Along with the spirit of the outdoors\, you will also gather knowledge to share\, motivate and direct youth. Powder Horn will give you the necessary skills to oversee a high adventure program. It will also help you identify local resources for your group’s program.PRE-REQUISITES:Must be a registered adult or youth member of the Boy Scouts of America\, within the Scouts BSA\, Venturing\, or Sea Scout Program.Youth must be 14 years of age (or have joined a Venturing crew if 13 years of age and completed eighth grade).Youth must have completed the unit’s version of leadership training (Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops\, Ships\, or Crews\, etc.) and National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is highly recommended for youth participants.All adult participants must be fully trained for their program and position\, to include a valid Youth Protection Training certificate which covers the course dates. All participants must complete the Hazardous Weather training\, Safety Afloat and Safe Swim Defense\, Climb on Safely online\, and Drive Safely through My.Scouting.org prior to the course.Meet the physical requirements contained in the Annual Health and Medical Record physical in a back-country environment (Forms A\, B\, and C).Course Director:John Herbig\, Elviswasblonde@gmail.com Course Coordinator: Christophe Cooper\, Christopher@Cooper3000.com

SUMMARY:Canoeing Campout
DESCRIPTION:Join Troop 58 for a Canoeing Adventure!The Troop will be outfitted by the Front Royal Canoe Company and we will be canoeing 11.5 miles down the South Fork of the Shenandoah River.  This campout is a fantastic opportunity to work on the Canoeing Merit Badge\, the Camping Merit Badge\, and some of the requirements for 1st Class. We will be staying at the Low Water Bridge Campground in Front Royal\, VA on Friday and Saturday night.  This is also an opportunity to do some fishing.*You must have passed the BSA Swim Test to attend this campout.We will meet at Trailside Middle School at 5:30pm and depart at 6.Please RSVP by August 2. The cost will be $75.  This includes canoe rental\, campsite fees\, and food.  Front Royal Canoe will provide life jackets\, paddles\, and of course canoes.  Everyone must wear shoes that can get wet – old sneakers or water shoes are a great option.  Flip flops or slides are not allowed.All participants must sign Front Royal Canoe’s Waiver.A permission slip is required for this event.Contact Wyatt Blair or Mr. Blair with questions.
