SUMMARY:Jamboree on the Internet
DESCRIPTION:The Jamboree-on-the-Air and Jamboree-on-the-Internet are the largest Scouting events in the world with more than 1.5 million Scouts from more than 160 countries annually participating. If you’ve never experienced the digital or amateur radio events before\, this might be the perfect time to attend\, especially with many of us Scouting at home. \nThese events will be held concurrently Oct. 16-18\, and will allow Scouts to connect with other Scouts\, locally\, nationally or globally. You can register here. \nFor the Jamboree-on-the-Internet\, all you need is an Internet-enabled device\, like a computer\, laptop\, tablet or mobile phone. If you have a ham radio\, you should be good for the Jamboree-on-the-Air\, too. However\, many Scouts opt to visit a local amateur radio operator’s ham shack or a ham shack at a council camp. If you’re planning to do that\, make sure to comply with local and state COVID-19 guidance. Also\, read this checklist for restarting Scouting in-person. \nFun activities\nThe World Organization of the Scout Movement has released the Jamboree-on-the-Air/Jamboree-on-the-Internet interactive map\, highlighting all the activities planned for that weekend: \nSafety Centre \nYouth Got Talent Stage \nFun Zone \nAmateur Radio Hub \nChallenge Valley \nJOTA-JOTI Live \nSome of these activities require pre-registration\, so look at the map for activities your Scout would be interested in. For example\, Scouts can sign up (deadline is Oct. 11) at the Youth Got Talent Stage to showcase their talents\, from cooking to music to singing\, to be broadcast during the live shows. \nOther activities will focus on training and information\, such as the Safety Centre\, which will offer tips for being safe on the internet. \nAnd\, of course\, there will be plenty of fun opportunities. Visit the Fun Zone for a universal dance party\, music\, quizzes\, games and arts and crafts. The Amateur Radio Hub will be the place to be to discover the world of the wireless radio and connect with Scouts from around the world. \nFor updates leading up to the events\, you can sign up through this Facebook event or check out the International Adventures blog. After attending\, you can order this cool patch from the Scout Shop.

SUMMARY:Bike Hike campout
DESCRIPTION:Biking Campers\,  \n \nAbout the Bike Hike\, we're going to be starting at the Trailside Middle School\, Saturday\, 8:00am\, and return around Sunday 11am. A text or email will be sent with the return ETA Sunday morning.  We're going to bike 15 miles on the W&OD Trail to Lake Fairfax campsite. Will take around 2-3 hours to get there. If anyone needs to take a break along the way\, the entire group will take a break. Once you get there you can mountain bike or you can just chill out from the long and quick ride.  You can also work on your mountain bike merit badge on this campout. Can also count this toward your Camping MB 9b – an important Eagle required MB. \n \nWith Covid still an issue\, all need to bring their own tent and own food. You will need food for Saturday lunch and dinner\, and Sunday breakfast. We will bring the troop trailer to carry the tents and food\, but bring your bag lunch and water with you on the bike in case we decide to stop on the trail to eat on the way.  \nYou will want to ensure that both you and your bike are ready for the bike hike. You may want an extra tube and tools to change the tube and a pump for air. \n \nBike helmets are a must wear while riding so be sure to have or won’t be able to attend. \nYiS\, Lee Moore
